ABOUT THE NOVEL
TRANSCENDENTS
In 2066, half of Earth’s dwindling human population survives as UnRegistered citizens in the barren shadows of the Global Union’s (GU) Livable Areas. May Alvarez, reluctant leader of a group holed up in the ruins of Bukavu, Congo, wants nothing to do with the GU, unless she and her ancestral machete can settle things with GU Secretary-General Lance Harbor himself. When mysterious fires threaten her community, May closes in on the bloodlust she promised her mother before the GU took her.
With the help of a powerful, rogue ally, GU Alpha Series officers Levi Winfield and Nigel Uwasi carry a troubling secret about the GU’s Actuation process. If they can survive their desperate escape attempt, and traverse half the globe without being caught by their scorned Ambassador, a group of naturalist revolutionaries said to hold the last chance at human survival awaits.
As the disparate band of adversaries converge on Nkombo Island, tension threatens to tear their hopes apart. But, when the shocking truth of the GU’s deeper designs reveals itself, all must decide between fighting each other, and fighting for the impossible.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JESSE K JOHNSON
As of 2024, Jesse lives with his wife and son in Bend, Oregon. When not running, paddling, climbing, writing words or music, or creating family memories, he practices as a Licensed Professional Counselor, and as an equine-partnered learning coach with humans of all woundings and potential.
Additionally, Jesse curates his Substack publication Living and Dying: The Spirit and Power of Human Potential, the proceeds of which go to the regenerative agriculture non-profit, Farmer’s Footprint. Jesse has also contributed as a writer in advocacy of Oregon’s Food & Water Watch and volunteers with the Bend-based canine rescue-rehab outfit Street Dog Hero.
In his less existentially heavy moments, you might find Jesse watching re-runs of Parks & Recreation or college basketball highlights of his tragically beloved Arizona Wildcats.
